Tech Job Leads in Field that Healthcare Dominates

The top job in the United States for 2018 again belongs to the software developer, back since topping in 2014.

Hence, it has replaced the dentist, who has long dominated the No. 1 spot for the last decade.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, the ranking is via median salary and employment rate, among others. The publication revealed that its projections come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Moreover, the annual survey considered stress level, work-life balance, and future job prospects in its rankings.

Healthcare Jobs Dominate

Ranking third to seventh are the physician assistant, the nurse midwife, the orthodontist, the statistician, and the pediatrician.

The obstetrician and gynecologist, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and the physician held a three-way tie (eighth-to-tenth).

In addition, the rest of the list from 11th to 23rd were mostly healthcare-related jobs.

They include the occupational therapist, the physical therapist, the anesthesiologist, the surgeon, the psychiatrist, the prosthodontist, and the dental hygienist.

Also dominating are the registered nurse, the physical therapist assistant, the respiratory therapist, the nurse anesthetist, and the optometrist.

Developers in Demand

The Chicago Tribune cites Rebecca Koenig of U.S. News on why software developers are in demand. Koenig says society is now more dependent on digital technology for all aspects.

Healthcare jobs will reportedly grow 18 percent by 2026, according to BLS data. They will add 2.3 million new jobs due to the large population of aging baby boomers who will need healthcare.

Artificial intelligence, automation, and information technology will also usher in new jobs for 2023-2028.
