How Work-from-Home Law Benefits Workers

Telecommuting refers to working for a company but staying at home and communicating via computer or communication devices. In simpler terms, it is called work-from-home.

Early this year, the Philippine government announced that it has enacted RA 11165, otherwise known as the Telecommuting Law.

The law entails the work-life balance of employees, and dealing with the current urban traffic congestion. After all, commuters face these daily hassles as they head for their individual offices.

HOME-BASED

For this, Sen. Joel Villanueva said there are now enough safeguards for home-based workers.

The senator added that the law would open doors for stable and consistent legal frameworks to benefit employees and employers from different enterprises, whether big or small.

This gives every Filipino a chance to be more productive and compliant. After all, they will now be working within the comforts of their own home.

This is also an opportunity for every employee to learn and enhance their skills through various programs and classes.

Moreover, this law also entails data protection on telecommuting pilot programs of up to three years in selected industries, all under the careful watch of Department of Labor and Employment.

TRAIN AND TRABAHO

Earlier, the government passed worker-friendly laws such as the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) 1 law. Among others, the comprehensive tax reform program generally reduced personal income tax and increased take-home pay beginning 2018.

Also, there are ongoing discussions in Congress on the substitute House bill for TRAIN 2, otherwise known as the Tax Reform for Attracting Better and High-quality Opportunities (TRABAHO) Bill.
